This is site is built with WordPress, using a customized them from MadeByMinimal. It is served from a cloud server in the New York area managed by Cloudways, and uses many technologies to make your experience as close to instantaneous as possible:* a Linux server with recent generation processors and NVMe storage, sitting right on top of a Northeastern USA internet trunk; several layers of cache, including WPRocket, Varnish, and Redis / Object Cache Pro; and Cloudflare’s content delivery network, which caches content on over 200 edge servers around the world (including one near you).
*This obsession with speed is a reaction against my 1990s digital trauma—untold hours staring at photography sites in the days of dial-up. To click a link was to gamble: the image on your screen was sure to vanish—but would the promised one appear? If so, when? How would you decide when to give up? If an image finally arrived, would it be worth it? Moving through a whole photo site like this made us all die a little on the inside. And when Adobe Flash came along, it all got worse. I hope to not make you suffer as we all did.
